After years of anticipation, Apple has officially unveiled the AirPods Max 2. While visually similar to the original model, the new headphones have been completely rebuilt internally to deliver a superior sound experience, powered by the advanced H2 chip in each ear cup.
The inclusion of the H2 chip has allowed Apple to double the effectiveness of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) compared to the first generation. Additionally, the headphones introduce:
Adaptive Audio: Dynamically blends Transparency mode and ANC based on the user’s environment.
Conversation Awareness: Automatically lowers the music volume and enhances voices when it detects the user has started speaking.
Personalized Volume: Adjusts sound intensity over time based on listening preferences and environmental history.
Connectivity and USB-C
Following the transition across Apple’s product line, the AirPods Max 2 ditches the Lightning port in favor of USB-C for charging and high-resolution wired audio. The battery has also received an upgrade, now offering up to 25 hours of battery life with noise cancellation enabled (a 5-hour increase over the predecessor).
New colors and materials
Apple has refreshed the color palette for this generation, making the device available in five new shades:
Midnight
Starlight
Deep Blue
Soft Orange
Purple
The ear cushions have been redesigned with a new acoustic mesh fabric that promises greater comfort and a more effective acoustic seal for different head shapes.
Pricing and Availability
The AirPods Max 2 are available for pre-order starting today, with in-store availability expected on March 25, 2026.
